Javier Villanueva


Javier Villanueva joined Cuesta Campos in 2011. He has focused his practice in intellectual property and compliance. His other areas of expertise include administrative and corporate law.

He has advised domestic and multinational corporations regarding prosecution, protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in Mexico, as well as intellectual property litigation, licensing, franchising, copyrights, patents and technology transfer.

His experience on compliance includes data protection and privacy, anticorruption, anti money-laundering, and confidentiality matters. Also, counseling on compliance matters including the preparation of compliance programs and policies, and attend visitations from authorities, requirements and proceedings. He has also worked closely advising national and multinational companies to participate in all kinds of public tenders.

Representative Matters
  1. Handling pharmaceutical companies trademark portfolio in all Latin America;
  2. Administrative litigation to obtain tridimensional trademark registrations;
  3. Representation of a multinational company in one of the biggest electronic toll systems public tenders in Mexico, as well as the negotiation and structure of joint participation agreements;
  4. Advise on regulatory and compliance matters, design and implementation of data protection plans, programs and trainings;
  5. Legal advice to pharmaceutical companies concerning the protection of confidential information and trade secrets;
  6. Conduct customs trainings and trademark enforcement actions in customs.

Key clients / industries: electronic manufacturing, pharmaceutical, electronic toll systems and traffic control, software, sportswear, clothing, cookware, alcoholic beverages.

Mr. Villanueva is member of the National Association of Corporate Lawyers (ANADE). He is currently associate professor of the Intellectual Property seminar as well as Securities and Credit Operations at the Faculty of Law of the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City.

Before joining Cuesta Campos Mr. Villanueva, developed experience as a practitioner in a Public Notary and in other renowned law firms, in civil and commercial litigation, contracts, drafting public deeds, and review of all kinds of public and private documents appertaining to a Public Notary function.
