Experience

Miguel Irurita has over 20 years of practice as legal counsel and corporate attorney to Mexican and foreign companies and entrepreneurs in areas such as banking and finance, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, estate and succession planning, as well as in antitrust and anticorruption matters. He has strong experience in the financial, media and telecommunications, retail, manufacturing, transportation and construction industries, as well as in the pharmaceutical and public sectors. Miguel has also represented government agencies and private entities in infrastructure projects, in the structuring of the deals and in the financial package.

Mr. Irurita has participated in over 20 securitization financings that have been successfully placed in the Mexican stock exchange, acting as a legal advisor and lawyer in over 30 public placements of securities, in both capital and debt. In addition, Miguel has participated in mergers and acquisitions such as the Salinas y Rocha and Blockbuster operations, and in renowned financial workouts and rescue packages such as the Fertinal case.

Miguel has advised high-net worth individuals and entrepreneurs on their personal estate planning strategy, and in their trust design and structure, including regulatory compliance (such as FATCA, CRS, among others).

Miguel is Secretary of the Board of Directors at the Social Union of Mexican Businessmen (“USEM”, for its acronym in Spanish), and is founding member of Appleseed Foundation de Mexico, and of “Más Ciudadania, A.C.”, having founded also “Consejeros Matrimoniales”. Miguel has also been professor of Commercial Cases at the Law School of Universidad Panamericana.

Prior to joining Cuesta Campos, Miguel was partner at Irurita Abogados, S.C., at Rubio, Monroy, Irurita y Vez, S.C., and at Sepúlveda y Mijares, S.C.; having also associate experience at Sherman & Sterling New York.

  1. Representation and legal counsel for financial institutions such as Banco Azteca, ING, Banorte, Actinver, Aserta, American Express, Invex, Nafinsa, SHF.
  2. Representation for major media and communications conglomerates: TV Azteca, Iusacell, Unefon.
  3. Legal advice and representation in different operations of Grupo Elektra, Grupo Freudenberg, Grupo ADO, ICA-Fluor Daniel, Andrade Gutierrez, CFE, Signa, Apotex.
  4. Infrastructure projects such as Merida II y III, Samalayuca, Carbón II, y El Cajón, entre otros.
